Shaunta, this is an interesting perspective.
I have also never thought of it in this way. In fact, I thought “where" is a less important determinant of one’s success. During my years in Lagos, Nigeria I became familiar with the saying - “if you can make it Lagos, you can make it anywhere". This saying has remained in my subconscious all through the last eleven years in living in 6 cities. But, relating it to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs brings into perspective.
There might be a case to say that we succeed, even in part, because of our environment (where) and not in spite of it. Is our “where" limited to be a physical place only? I am thinking Malcolm Gladwell’s David and Goliath.
